Bizarre...

I have a wisdom tooth coming through.

Way back when, I was under the impression my dentist had removed the wisdom tooth on that side (upper right, in case anyone's desperate to know... *g*). I remember the occasion distinctly since he was practically sitting on me as he pulled the damn thing out, only for it to shatter as he did so.

So, he told me that, since he'd not been able to remove it completely, I'd be getting little fragments coming out through the gum. Which is what I thought was happening, except that now (this must be 5 years ago at least) it's through enough to be recognisable as a tooth.

Very strange.

Ugh, that's not either fun or good. I had a shard of a pulled wisdom tooth come through my gums once; took it an aeon and it hurt like fuck. For the whole tooth to be coming in is bizarre, though here in the much-inbred southern USA, it's not unheard of for people to cut two or three sets of permanent teeth....

Are you positive it's the whole tooth? Couldn't it be a large shard? Sounds like X-ray time.

It's definitely a tooth - it's exactly the same shape as the wisdom tooth on the other side and I can feel the entire surface of it.

It doesn't hurt, other than where it's rubbing against the inside of my mouth, since it's now completely through the gum. So I suppose I should be thankful for small mercies...

Sounds like you have an extra wisdom tooth.

I kept all mine, so my last one just came in, too. The dentist swore that it was horribly impacted and would shove out two or three teeth coming in, but no, it's coming in just fine.

I suspected he was a complete quack all along, but he was the one my mother's insurance covered, so...

Well, there's a space between the last molar and the new tooth on that side, so it's quite possible it's an extra.

Still, it's not causing any problems and I have no desire to do hamster impressions any time soon (I've seen what the after-effects of wisdom tooth removal look like, and thanks, but no thanks!) so I'm working on live and let live at the moment...

ick--wisdom teeth

I had a wisdom tooth that came out, then went back in. It "erupting" (as my dentist said) a couple times a year, but then the skin would grow back over it. It didn't bother me, so I didn't do anything. Then one morning, I woke up with no neck. (Okay, so there was a neck, it was just hard to distinguish, being as it was as wide as my face.) I had to have immediate surgery to remove that wisdom tooth and the one on the other side (which had never erupted) because they were both infected and impacted.

Since they broke one getting it out, I had some shards still left too. They came out within a couple months...but were really shards. No more teeth, at least not yet!

You have my sympathy. Is it bothering you, or is it just a regular tooth? Maybe this one will be okay and just stay there...

Nah, it's not bothering me, I was just surprised when it came through the gum enough to identify it as a complete tooth.

And long may the 'not bothering me' continue!
