How frustrating is it when you have a good idea for a story just as you're dropping off to sleep and so you can't be bothered to go looking for pen and paper to write it down, then you can't remember what the hell it was the next morning?

That's good - I sympathize - I've had that happen to me as well, but usually, when I finally get back to it, I rather wished I'd forgotten it!

Argh! I *hate* it when that happens. For me, it's usually the next line of a story I was stuck on, or like the absolutely perfect ending line of something and by morning it's just *poof* gone! And no amount of leaving pens and paper by the bed will get my lazy arse over there to write it down after the lights are out!

It's not a major problem (and it's not as if I don't have loads of half-baked ideas already underway), but it *is* vexing when it's a good one. ;)

The car isn't so bad, since I usually end up just chewing ideas over and over till I get to somewhere I can scribble something down...

Ideas come to me in my car all the time. Then, I have to hurry and scribble them down, but sometimes I miss it at the peek of inspiration and inception. That drives me insane! No pun intended ;)

Well, as long as you have plenty of other half-baked ideas...
