The dog is gone. Despite the best efforts of friends online and off to persuade me otherwise, the dog has been found a new home.

Frankly, I dislike being a grown-up a lot of the time anyway and those days the kids are about as much responsibility as I can be bothered with. The sheer aggravation of taking the dog out for his constitutional had already lost its shine by some time Saturday afternoon. ;)

Shallow? Probably. Realistic? Definitely.

You did the right thing for both of you. It isn't shallow, it is very wise. Ok, you've done enough reality, go read a good fic and feel better.

I dog sit my friend's two jack russells a couple of times every year. They are cute and adorable, but their visits never fail to cure me of dog-owning daydreams. I like walking, but not every day, and not in rain. And being trailed around the house and not being able to move because there's always a dog underfoot is wearing. It's a bit like other people's babies. They are nice to coo over and even nicer to hand back to their parents. ;-)
