Thoughts on 'New Order'
Jul. 11th, 2004 04:27 pmHaving seen the squinty version...
All things considered, not a bad effort for the season opener. The first part seemed to drag a little, though it was enlivened by the sight of Teal'c storming around the Asgard ship (the much-promised 'Daniel Jackson'!) with a pump-action shotgun, looking both mean and cool at the same time. ;)
My tolerance for Carter is still as low as ever, though AT turned in one of her better performances, imo. I just couldn't bring myself to care all that much when she was being tortured, and the alternate reality stuff dragged. I'm afraid I suffered from Sam-relationship overdose in season 7 and find myself in a position where I just couldn't give a damn any more.
Carter also appears to be suffering from Fred Burkle Syndrome - everyone with an XY chromosome within a twenty mile radius of her falls madly in love with her. Oh please. Get over yourselves. That idea got stupid a couple of seasons ago.
RDA seems a little more engaged with the show than previously, and MS turned in his usual sterling performance. Thank you whoever decided to put him in that black jacket on the Asgard planet, it was much appreciated.
So, we avoided sledgehammer-to-the-head shipper moments this time round, which is always good, let's hope the guys at Bridge will be able to resist the temptation to nauseate us as the season goes on...
