It amuses me that anyone even vaguely involved with/aware of the nature of English sporting 'prowess' (and I use that term advisedly loosely) should be surprised at our national team's ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. ;)

Meanwhile, in other news:

Dear fic writer, well known in fandom and now writing under another name (but not really making that consistent an effort to hide your previous BNF status elsewhere), writing a much-awaited sequel to a well-received first story, it disheartens me to discover that you apparently take less trouble to ensure the correct spelling of supporting character's names than your average 14 year old posting on the Pit of Voles.

That is all.

Which fandom? I may feel an urge to point and laugh. There is (at least) one minor character in one of my fandoms, whose name gets spelled multiple ways. But then her real name was never listed in the credits, and I don't remember if the authors of the main canon/fanon database got their spelling of it from the scripts or not.

Who invented fandom-ese, this attempt to get everyone talking gobble-de-gook? BNF? Isn't that a book by Roald Dahl? And 'fen' will always mean a patch of marshy land to me. Or maybe a unit of Chinese currency. When people talk of fen and BNFs, I always picture a couple of big friendly giants talking in a field. I don't want to know what "A BNF added me to her flist after I FBed her ER Snarry story" means...but unfortuantely I do.

Someone should suffer for that.

End rant.

If the author in question is the one I'm thinking it is, well, that's not the first time it's happened.

I'm not sure we're even thinking of the same fandom - this is HP slash.

HP slash. How hard is it to, say, consult the books? Or one of the doubtless hundreds of websites with character names spelled correctly? Too hard, apparently.

Yes... I'm thinking of an HP author who used to be a BNF in another fandom but is now writing under another name.

Wah? So, no comment on the 'Pit of Voles' reference? ;)

It probably is the same one then. Her apparent inability to spell 'Poppy' correctly vexes me greatly!

Now that's just sloppy. Spelling things wrong in a lit-based fandom is unforgivable.

I'd be less inclined to snipe if the person in question hadn't thanked her two betas for proofreading etc. Clearly they read a different version from the one she ended up posting?

Now that's even more unforgivable on the part of the betas.
