Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale
Day 27 - Best pilot episode
Day 28 - First TV show obsession
Day 29 - Current TV show obsession
Day 30 - Saddest character death
Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new)
In this case, it's new rather than old, with an honourable mention for Almost Human (Michael Ealy, how are you so fine?) but top of my current list is Masters of Sex, a Showtime series about the sex researchers Masters and Johnson. I was already intrigued by the idea of this as the basis for a drama and then they cast Michael Sheen as Dr William Masters and I was definitely sold. US premiere is Sunday 29th September, UK premiere is Tuesday 8th October.
In related other news, so far I have watched the pilot epiodes of The Blacklist (since I love me some Spader) and Agents of SHIELD as well as the first two episodes of Sleepy Hollow and while this view may get me actively shunned, I think Sleepy Hollow does the better job of introducing the characters and getting you to engage with them.
In terms of The Blacklist, the pilot does a good enough job of setting the scene and Spader is always a draw, particularly when he gets to play a character that isn't two-dimensional. There's enough ambivalence and shades of grey here in Reddington for him to work with, though sadly not as much thought seems to have been given to the lead female character who is mostly pretty unengaging in comparison (apart from one notable moment that surely would have got her jail time rather than a smack on the wrist, no matter what the stakes). She seems to be all about the Tragic Past and that can get old real fast...
Though it felt like I'd been waiting forever for Agents of SHIELD and all in all it was a pretty solid pilot episode, I guess I was expecting more somehow; for me some of the humour from Coulson fell a bit flat. The science twins are quite adorable though I hope they're used sparingly and MarySue Hacker could be a better actor but I guess they wanted someone pretty to try and pair off with Ward (who I liked more than I expected to).
Out of the three, Sleepy Hollow is definitely my favourite and that's really surprised me, as I wasn't expecting that to be the case - I like the dynamic between Ichabod and Abbie (she's definitely my favourite character), so it'll be interesting to see if the writers can manage not to mess it up. As long as they don't put too much emphasis on the 'man out of time' aspect of things, it'll be fine, as again this is something that needs a light touch rather than belabouring.
