graculusAs I'm at home sick with lack of lungs, having coughed them up over the long weekend (true story!), I thought I'd try and recap the year in terms of fannish crapola, because why not?
However, first things first, most awesome Yuletide story of this year imho - I love Master and Commander and I don't see how that will ever not be the case but then someone goes and writes a story where Stephen gets turned into a penguin! \o/ Hijinks naturally ensue. If you like that fandom even a little, chances are you'll like this.
Anyway, on with the recapping...
Returning TV show of 2011: no competition, it's Fringe all the way. Seasons 2 and 3 were awesome with the whole Red and Blue universes thing going on and the two Olivias switching places for a bunch of episodes and Peter how could you not know the difference? but this?
Damn you, showrunners for not just pressing the reset button and running it all again from there but creating something new where some stuff we were accustomed to has happened and some hasn't and it all makes my brain hurt (in a good way). Also, where is Charlie Francis in the Orange universe?And what is with making me a shipper in every possible universe, damn it? Insomniac Lincoln, so adorable. ;)
New TV show of 2011: again no competition, it's Suits. Heard good things, didn't expect to fall the way I have, but damn the vast majority of the fanfic is mediocre. Not that this stops me reading it, but I digress...
Best purchased movie of 2011: I didn't buy that many this year but the best of those I did get would have to be Di Renjie zhi tongtian diguo (Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame) which I desperately wish I'd had the chance to see in the cinema. Given my love for wu xia movies, it was hardly surprising, I guess...
Best LoveFilm movie of 2011: tie between The King's Speech and Toy Story 3, why yes I am behind the times, thanks so much for noticing...
New fandom surprise of 2011: in terms of reading fic, I picked up two unexpected new fandoms this year, namely The Eagle (if only the quality of Suits fic was as good as much of what's in this fandom!) and one for which I totally blame![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
katemonkey in Steve Rogers/Tony Stark. No, I do not wish to go through the many and various comics incarnations of the characters, I'll stick with RDJ and Chris Evans (actor, not ginger DJ) for my mental imaginings. :)
Old fandom recurrence of 2011: it's Magnificent Seven, if the small amount of fic I've written in any fandom is anything to go by. The majority of it has been cowboys. This isnot never a bad thing.
So, that was 2011, apparently. 2012? God damn, that Avengers movie needs to live up to the hype or you'll be able to hear the screams of a million fanboys and girls across the planet.
