  • You know, it's kind of tricky to take seriously an episode of Criminal Minds about a serial killer targetting the homeless when all the homeless folks and drug addicts have such perfect, shiny Hollywood-white teeth.

  • Please feel free to ignore me if I get all preachy about the current lj shenanigans in your journal, dear friends, it just bugs me to heck when I pay for a service and said company decides they can trample roughshod over people in an arbitrary fashion.

  • It's warm here. I mean warm for the UK, before anyone starts. Maybe it's summer at last? The kids are all crashed out, and I'm glad that unlike them, I don't have a fur coat.

  • Bullet points are your friends. ;)

  • Has anyone got experience of any of those open source gallery software thingys, because I'm thinking how it might be easier for the future [livejournal.com profile] danielpix pics when I move everything over to my own webspace?

  • I'm currently about halfway through HP7, since I decided it would be easier to listen to it when I commute, and that I might finish it before Christmas that way. Much appreciation for your continued lj-cutting. :)

  • Is it just me, or does the current fashion for tops look like over-bright maternity wear?

Re: last point. No, it's not just you, it's seriously foul clothing year. I'm just hoping by the time I need to buy new work wear psychadelia's (spelling?) stopped throwing up over bad shape.

I was in Asda's clothing section yesterday and there were parts of it during which I wished I hadn't left my sunglasses in the car...

No it isn't just you. Various friends of mine are pregnant and they are having a joyous time wearing the lastest fashions. Lucky old them. Personally I don't wish to look like multi-coloured pregnant person, and would like just a little bit of choice in the shops.

Re: last bullet. No it's not just you *sigh* If I wanted to look like a psychedelic pregnant woman, I'd go shopping. As I don't, I'm re-using last year's wardrobe.

And yup, it's warm here. Too darned warm, IMO. I was really enjoying the cool, rainy summer :-)

I'm just starting to get into CM. I've already watched the two James VanDerBeek episodes, and I enjoyed them both immensely. I've loved Mandy Patinkin for years, and Thomas Griffith... he's so not Greg any more. What an amazing actor. There's something about Reid, though. Maybe it's the hair. :)

I've worked with Menalto's Gallery for quite a few years, and I can honestly say that I've never had a problem with it. Of all the others out there, it's the one I would most definitely recommend.

Is it just me, or does the current fashion for tops look like over-bright maternity wear?

Yes! I see all these really thin young girls wearing shirts that give them the appearance of being pregnant. It's very strange, but I do remember smock tops being popular back in late 60s or thereabouts, too. I remember wearing them to school, though these were more like "cafeteria worker" smocks, but that was about what maternity clothing looked like back then, too. I have no idea why people would think it was a good idea to dress kids ages 8 - 12 or so in maternity wear, but apparently I was happy enough to wear it. *g*

I'd watched part of season 1 and then for some reason, I stopped. And then the magic internet truck helped me out with that and I just finished season 2, in preparation for when season 3 starts airing in September.

You know Mandy Patinkin has thrown a hissy fit and walked out on the show, though? It's going to be interesting to see if they manage to successfully replace him...

I knew he'd left, but no one is really saying why. One exec says "creative differences", another says, "personal issues"... and he's rumored to be in the second ep for some reason.

I'm only halfway through S1, plus having seen Big Game and Revelations, and all I can say is that I really hope they promote from within and then bring in any new character in a lower position, like Elle and Emily both had when they started. I'd really like to see Hotch in charge, and I think he deserves it (based on what I've seen so far)... but though I really like Morgan, he just doesn't seem like Supervisor material yet.

I don't know. I'm sure I'll have a more informed opinion by September, though.

I'm guessing I've missed something big going down on LJ. I have been offline a bit in the last couple of weeks cos I was running out of bandwidth (downloading too much Who stuff lately *g*).

What's happened and what are LJ doing? Is there anywhere this is summarised?

And yes, agree... bullet points are your friends... and yes, the current fashions are crap. *g* I'm currently on a weight-loss binge... I'll be seriously pissed if I finally get the pounds off only to find the clothes are going to make me look big anyway! *g*

    Cheers!

Well, after the whole Strikethrough business, where someone on lj got triggerhappy and deleted a bunch of accounts and communities (including a major HP slash community, [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies because of pressure from some fundamentalist Christian nutjobs, the guy running lj assured everyone that there would be no further action like that without due process, that fandom was welcome on lj, yadda yadda...

Then, at the end of last week, two HP fan artists got banned on a permanent basis from lj for posting pics that initially were claimed to involving underage characters, with no opportunity to appeal. This included the deletion of one artists other journals, including one where they posted recipes. The pics in question were originally posted to [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies and were by no means a) the only ones, or b) the most dubious things ever posted there. One pic was a Snape/Harry pic where Harry appeared at least 18, the other was a Fred/George pic drawn in more of a cartoon style, which made telling their ages more tricky.

When the fact that the pics weren't clearly underage was vigorously pointed out, the response from lj abuse was to admit that maybe the Snape/Harry pic wasn't underage, but it didn't have enough artistic merit to balance out the sexual content. Because clearly a bunch of lj-abuse folks are well placed to judge obscenity v. artistic merit when the US Supreme Court would say it struggles to do so...

Cue outrage over lack of communication, actions that appear a complete turnaround from what was being said only weeks ago, questions over whether those previous statements were a cynical attempt to reassure people into buying permanent accounts, over whether lj is being homophobic since there has been no similar action towards m/f art or fic, outrage that lj is essentially calling all artwork involving characters who might be under 18 child porn and the people who draw/view it paedophiles, and a general lack of confidence that lj won't start behaving in an equally arbitrary fashion towards the rest of us.

    How's that for a summary? ;)

Apparently he did the same thing (or something very similar) when he was on Chicago Hope so it seems two seasons is about his limit?

I've heard various rumours about what they intend to do with the show, but I don't know which direction they go in... as long as they avoid inhouse romance, I'll be happy. It'll also be a bloody miracle, knowing US shows, but I live in hope!

A truly excellent summary, thank you kindly. :-)

This has the makings of a good movie, actually. Pity there's no Erin Brockovich for bloggers. *g*

Beyond anything else, I love the inequality of the application of the rules - if it's homosexual in nature it must, of course, be far more evil. Just when you think that, in some quarters, progress is being made for greater acceptance... yadda yadda

I'm guessing LJ haven't heard the expression of not biting the hand that feeds them.... and they've likely missed the fact that if they bite one hand, many hands in fandom will slap back. :-)
