Various and sundry (part 2)...
Jun. 3rd, 2007 02:40 pmSince I was in the US for a couple of season finales (Heroes, Numb3rs and Blood Ties), though there were equally ones where I'd missed an episode beforehand and couldn't (Boston Legal and Veronica Mars), I thought I'd watch the former live on US television. I'd forgotten just how aggravating US television could be, since it felt like we were breaking for commercials every two minutes or so. How is this supposed to discourage people from the evil downloading behaviour? ;)
Words can hardly express how much I enjoyed the season finale of Heroes though anyone who mentioned it at MW will know that I refuse to consider the possibility that Peter and Nathan are dead. The best theory I've heard so far is that Peter needed Nathan to take him high enough up that his exploding wouldn't destroy the planet and then zip off, leaving him to explode and then heal himself. Hey, it's a theory! I'll believe the Petrellis won't be fondling each other in season two when I hear it from Tim Kring himself and not a moment before. Roll on the dvd boxset in August!
Again, words can hardly express my reaction to the season finale of Numb3rs, except not in a good way!
I had never known what it felt like to be Jossed before, mostly because since season 4 the guys who make SG-1 didn't really care enough about continuity to give us a serious Jossing at any point. Their canon is semi-consistent at the best of times, making it relatively easy to work around, so this wasn't an experience I'd ever had before. Likewise, I've been cossetted by the delightful thing that is closed canon, with no chance of 'oh, by the way, we forgot to mention at any point that Colby's been working for the Chinese for at least the past two years', combined with it not getting mentioned to Charlie at all after the guy gets dragged away in cuffs. Erm, don't you think Charlie might notice next time he's at the office, Don?
Apparently Dylan Bruno is signed up for season 4, but there's going to have to be a seriously good explanation for this otherwise it's so far out of left field it made everyone's head spin. And it killed my one single story idea, which didn't please
obelix considering the poor quality of the fic out there! ;)
Meanwhile, I'm not sure I understand the logic behind the proposal that's being made for some kind of uber-archive in reaction to the whole FanLib shenanigans. Considering the size of certain fandoms online to start with, aren't we like about 6 or 7 years too late for that kind of thing?
Oh, I also love the way that the moment anyone mentions fic on Livejournal, there's bound to be at least one person telling everyone else how LJ is bad and wrong for fic because they can't find anything on it. Uh huh. Thanks for sharing.
