Just curious about everyone else's plans for the coming television season... what's returning you can't wait for, or which show has outstayed its welcome?

Although I've selected GA, House and NCIS as 'I can't wait', I have to say that with GA, I feel it could have been tied up at the end of S3, until, that is the final ep, which I really didn't like, so now I'm just hoping they'll fix things.

As for NCIS . . . Well despite it being my main fandom, as I explained in my Current Show Fandom (http://nakeisha.livejournal.com/257058.html) post, I am actually ambivalent about it. And if I'm honest I think it lost its way to an extent at the end of S2. The first two seasons were, IMHO, superb, without a single bad or even iffy episode, whereas although there have been some excellent eps in both S3 and 4, there have also been a lot of rubbish. Plus I am tired of the 'Jenny, Tony and Jeanne Show'. I want the real NCIS back.

Whilst I like and do enjoy NCIS, I can't say I can't wait til it's back as I can :) It is and has been getting a bit silly in places :( I am, however, really looking forward to the return of Eureka and The 4400! Not necessarily amazing TV but, given what else is on, I've really enjoyed them.

Two not on your list that I wish would hurry up and start new seasons are Criminal Minds, and Torchwood.

The only thing I really, really can't wait to have back is Torchwood. I need my fanfic-on-TV crack like House needs his Viocodin. More Bones would be nice too, and also Cold Case, which I watch as random episodes from assorted series show up on Sky3.

I'll watch CSI and NCIS, and possibly House so long as it doesn't come up with another moronic story arc which makes me hate the show. But I wouldn't say I was desperate for any of them. And I was planning to watch Heroes when it showed up on terrestrial, but I don't know if I missed the start or not.

Thinking about it, I'm having something of a down phase with American TV at the moment. Most of the new shows I look at start annoying me after a few episodes and I drop them. Plus, there seems to be an inverse relationship between how much fandom attention something is getting, and how much I enjoy it when I see it. Possibly I'm just turning into a grumpy old bat.

I lost track of Criminal Minds towards the end of season 1 and now season 2 is airing and I haven't had a chance to catch up.

And I'm looking forward to Torchwood as well, just not quite as fervently as some people on my friendslist. ;)

I admire anyone who's made it into season 3 of NCIS considering how bored I was with season 2 - when I realised I was taping the eps and fast forwarding to the McGee, Abby or Ducky scenes, I knew I had to give in and admit this wasn't the show I got hooked on in season 1...

Nope, the terrestrial airing of Heroes hasn't started yet, so you're safe. ;)

Really? You didn't enjoy Season 2? Gosh, I thought it was the best, as did most people I know, I'm really surprised to hear that someone didn't enjoy it. And it had two Ducky centric eps, which we haven't had since *sigh*

Two
One
Four
Three

Is how I'd rate them.

Now I actually look at the episode listing, I see it was early season 3 where I bailed, so your theory is safe. ;)

I think I'll be waiting for it to air over here (a couple of months late) this time, whereas last season I was downloading, so I guess that says something. I see the relevant PTB have said season 4 will be it, so it might be interesting to see how they (try and) tie up all the loose ends.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next in Heroes, although if what "happened" at the end of S1 actually happened then that could dampen my enthusiasm considerably.

House I like, but it has been mostly ruined this year by the vindictive bullying cop story, so if it can get back to its roots then I'll be interested in watching.

NCIS has gone off on a wander this year. I loved a lot of episodes for the first three seasons, though I was extremely relieved to get rid of the prissy and immensely irritating Kate (if anyone could have made me switch off, it was her). S4 seems to have lost its way, lost the teamwork, focussed far too much on the romance-that-isn't, and tried to be clever when it isn't being anything of the sort. And there hasn't been anywhere near enough Tony in peril for my liking.

Boston Legal has lost a lot of what was interesting to me, so I watch it every so often. Numbers I like but never manage to watch an episode without needing to do something else at the same time - it doesn't keep my interest on its own. GA is fun, but is basically a soap. You'd have to pay me a lot to watch Lost, 24, Battlestar Galactica, and Smallville. Torchwood was great in places but very disappointing in that there was far too little focus on Jack and too much on Gwen (and other characters) - hopefully they can improve on that for next year. Without a Trace has pulled me back in a bit after all the romantic crap pushed me away, but not enough that the latest ep with yet more bloody kissing between work colleagues hasn't made me question whether to just give up now.

I guess I'm not easily pleased these days. At the moment I'm watching Doctor Who, which isn't bad but Tennant isn't a great Doctor IMO. I like Jericho but it's cancelled. I like SG-1 but it's cancelled. SGA is as good as cancelled for me because of the complete balls-up they made of the end of S3 and the horrors of what's coming in S4.

There's sadly little Brit stuff that I watch - mostly documentaries or the odd short series or one-off drama.

I wish I didn't feel the way I now do about a couple of shows but there is no way I'm going to watch House or Battlestar Galactica after what happened in the last season.

House lost me with the Tripper storyline and I never went back.

BSG left me in the dust last season and I don't care what happens.

Lost I abandoned a while ago and most of the other shows I don't even watch at all or I'm neutral about

I might watch SGA just to see how bad it will become but probably not.

You know the new seasons of Big Love and Eureka start in the US next week and in a month's time, respectively?

If I ever actually finish watching Heroes, I'm sure I will be eager for its return. :) I really enjoyed watching House all in one fell swoop over a few weeks (which is one reason the cop storyline didn't turn me off--I didn't have to suffer months of it). And I'm still on board with Atlantis, wanting to see what happens.

But I'm probably not going to be planted in front of the television on premeire day for anything. Mostly because of my impressionable 4-year-old shadow. It's just easier to wait for the DVDs or buy the episode from iTunes and watch when I don't have to worry about a little voice piping up from behind me and asking "Why did that man just explode?"

I am very much looking forward to Ugly Betty.

You should have a 3rd poll: What shows do you wish you could walk away from and get another hour back in your life?

Smallville, Numb3rs, Lost.

The "something else" I refuse to watch in the second poll is anything classified as so-called "reality" TV. Why will this phenomenon just not die?!

Okay, honestly I only watch four shows on this list. I won't be picking up any of these shows that I don't watch already. I'm not exactly sure what Numb3rs is actually. Hmmmm.....

Of the shows on this list the one I am most excited about by far is Heroes. That is my new favorite show. Almost as great as Buffy. If it continues to be great it may surpass Buffy. I haven't been this excited about a show in a long time.

Boston Legal is a recent discovery of mine and I'm still trying to get caught up on all of season three. I'm working on the downloads as I type this and I'm downloading the last season of The Practice as well. I'm completely in love with Alan Shore and Denny Crane.

As for Lost and 24, they have both been total crapfests this year. I couldn't even watch the entire season of either show this year. I am so done with them.

Shows not included on your list that I am most looking forward to are The Wire (the best cop drama since ever) and Torchwood. I have much love for this show. Especially Jack/Ianto.

We should refuse to give the idiots their crack just on principle. Make them watch buddy shows with loads of thinly veiled subtext instead, and enjoy the spectacle as their heads explode en masse. Mmmm, good times there, I tell you.

Thanks very much for the link -- I look forward to checking it out! One can never have too much snark in one's life.
