Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] ckr:

1) What is your guaranteed squick when you're reading fic?

Non-con fic masquerading as BDSM (safe, sane and consensual or it's *not* BDSM, guys!), the old chestnut 'he raped me so I need the healing power of sex to make me love again', the equally old chestnut 'you raped me but I know it was because you couldn't stop yourself and I wuv you now so it's okay!' and icky lovenames.

2) Name an actor or actress you can't slash without squicking.

I'm not really interested in the actor, it's the character. There are *characters* I can't slash (any Malfoy) but I'm not one of those slashers who follows an actor from fandom to fandom happily slashing any part they play.

I'm just as likely to go 'yeah, interesting character but I have *no* desire to imagine him naked' regardless of my level of obsession over the character he played in something else.

3) Name a song that you can't stand to see used for a songvid -- it just doesn't work, there are too many done to it or for whatever other reason.

Where do I begin? ;)

Power ballads. Particularly boy band power ballads. And soft country rock music. If I was doing vids it'd be all Pixies and stuff, none of this sappy 'I wuv him soooooo much music'.

4) What is your biggest pet peeve with con hotels? (any con, any hotel)

Not getting a room at MediaWest because of the arcane room allocation system? Oh, and the food at MW too - Eclecticon may be in the most unglamourous location (under Newark airport's flightpath) but you can't knock the restaurant/coffee shop.

5) Name something about fandom on livejournal that gets on your nerves?

That some people apparently have a sense of humour bypass when they join fandom?

And now ferret update:

They're all sleeping in the same cage and seem to be getting on. Remus has stopped biting me quite so much (probably because he doesn't like the response he gets when he does) and the fur is growing back on where they'd been ragging on each other. All good! :)

I don't like the food particularly at Hummingbirds either, but you're right - ECon rocks! You coming this year?

(and *snerk* humour bypass. *g*)

Alas, no, I'm having to give E'con a miss this year because I have just too much stuff going on in RL.

As for the humour bypass thing, there's a lot of people out there who have no sense of humour whatsoever, or no understanding of the concepts of irony and sarcasm. There are things in this world worth getting really worked up about but whether or not your pairing of choice are really doing it is *not* one of them...

What do you mean it's not worth fighting for? Of course it is! What is more important than fighting for your OTP? The environment? World hunger? War?

Pffft...

P.S. This was a sarcastic post, it was written with tongue firmly in cheek *wink*

I do indeed have ferrets, but no scanner nor one of those nifty digital camera things. Besides, ferrets are terribly tricky to photograph, since they don't keep still unless they're asleep.

I have 4 at the moment: Dougal (a polecat), Lily (a black-eyed white with half a tail), Obi (another polecat) and Remus (a sandy, which means he's got the polecat markings but he's actually a gingery colour instead). The latter two are relatively new, while I've had Dougal and Lily getting on for 18 months now - they're all adult rescues.

What a shame you don't have a digital camera... but I can imagine what you mean, it's very difficult to photograph our snake and still keep his head in shot (which is the best bit, because he's albino, with red eyes).

I am under the impression that "ferrets" are basically domesticated polecats, with less melanin. Is this true, or is it more complex?

More complex than that - ferrets have been domesticated since ancient Egypt, iirc. There's some resemblance between the polecat-marked ferret (known in the US as the sable) and the wild polecat but then there are all the varieties of colours and markings that centuries of breeding have thrown up.

Besides, wild polecats are not nice creatures and ferrets generally are daft and affectionate (unless they've been mistreated like Remus the bloodsucker was before I got him).

That's interesting... so what happens when they return to the wild? I'd assume it would still be like rabbits or dogs, that over time the inbred characteristics would fade out. I imagine that is true of most domesticated species, really, as they are often not really suited to a wild environment.

Well, it wouldn't happen with mine, they've all had the operation! ;)

My understanding is that most ferrets that get lost in the wild don't live very long - they get hit by cars or starve to death since their survival instinct isn't all that strong any more. One of mine was dumped in a local forest and apparently bounced out of the undergrowth to the first person he spotted, so obviously they like civilization better...

But a happy ending, for at least one!

Why aren't you using the sydnicons, btw? Cute lil FERRETS!!!
I'd use them myself, but I have to stick to the obvious ;)
