I always watch TV with the Tivo. Even if I'm watching it "live" I watch through the Tivo, so that I can pause it if I have to get up for whatever reason. I rarely watch anything live, though. I record everything and watch it when I feel like it. If it's a really cool show that I want to watch semi-live, I always always end up starting it 10 - 15 minutes late so that I can skip over the commercials.
I have a DVD recorder that can be programmed to record a specific show, but I've never done that. I just use it to burn DVDs of show I already have on the Tivo, if I decide they're worth saving.
