day 15 - Favourite female character

This one was actually quite easy, which probably says something about the female characters in many of the shows I watch and fandoms I follow...

I don't think I've mentioned Fringe so far in this meme, so it's probably time that it made an appearance, with Olivia Dunham being my favourite female character. Or should that be characters, since we get more than one of her over the series run - first off when they swap universes and then when there are various time-lines being affected by what they have done/haven't done/need to do.

Initially, I have to admit I wasn't overly impressed by Anna Torv's acting, as she comes across as quite wooden in season 1, but as the show goes on and Olivia herself changes we also see (imo) Anna's acting improve, so I can easily be persuaded to think that her portrayal of Olivia initially was a conscious choice.

One of the things that really bugs me about procedurals in general and the women who act in them is when female characters either aren't physically convincing in the role or the show makes them do stupid things (i.e. taking forensic samples with their hair blowing all over the place and no masks or suits, yes Catherine Willows of CSI: Las Vegas I am looking at you...). I've always been convinced where Olivia Dunham is concerned, so that's definitely another point in her favour.
