Day 8 - A show everyone should watch
I'm not really sure how this is different from 'a show that needs more viewers' but since I already waxed lyrical about Person of Interest for that one I'm going to try and think about something else.
So, let's talk about Life - for those who've not come across it, it's 2 seasons long and stars Damian Lewis (now better known by most folks for Homeland) as Charlie Crews and Sarah Shahi as Dani Reese, with an excellent supporting cast that includes Adam Arkin, Robin Weigert and Donal Logue among others.
Charlie is a detective, recently released off the back of spending 12 years in prison for murders he didn't commit, and Dani is his new partner. As well as a big cash settlement, Charlie's reinstatement as a detective was part of the settlement deal he made with the LAPD. Charlie is understandably messed up from his prison experiences, not to mention driven by the idea that he was framed by fellow cops and uncertain who to trust - Dani is also messed up, as she's pretty self-destructive and on her last chance with the department due to her behaviour.
The expectation is that Dani will keep tabs on Charlie and report him if he steps over the line as his bosses would like nothing more than to get rid of him if they can. Naturally, she doesn't do this (otherwise it'd be a very short series) and our two misfits unexpectedly turn out to work well together and fight crime!
Like most shows, there's some problematic handwavey writing at times but there's also some really lovely cinematography and because they knew the show was being cancelled it doesn't end on a cliffhanger. You would also have to work quite hard to ship Charlie and Dani, while the writers clearly don't want to go that way for most of season 2 at least, since Dani ends up in a quite believably dysfunctional relationship with someone else.
