graculus: (Snape)
So, I'm going to have a go at posting every day in September, and to help with this I'm going to be telling you more about my ongoing views of fandom/tv than you ever wanted to know, along with whatever else comes to mind.

Here's the fandom meme, if anyone's interested )

Day 1 - A show that should never have been cancelled

I'm going to take that as meaning a show that got killed in its prime (or before it got to its prime, even) rather than one that ran a few seasons and then got canned, as for many of us I'm sure we'd all like the shows we love to run and run. For me, it's got to be The Middleman though I could probably make a good case for a number of other shows (Once a Thief, Common Law, Wonderfalls, The Unusuals...).

For anyone who hasn't seen The Middleman, it's just the best thing ever in my not-so-humble opinion, beautifully cast and written with lashings of geeky in-jokes. It's a show where people can become trout-craving zombies or we can find our heroes dealing with a cursed tuba from the Titanic. It's also one of the many shows on which Mark Sheppard has guest-starred, in this case as both a character and that character's evil twin, complete with goatee! ;)

I have to admit, this is one of my go-to comfort shows - all 12 episodes are on DVD - a plan that is sheer elegance in its simplicity. As with many of my cancelled shows, though, I have to wonder if the creative folks involved would have been able to sustain that level of crunchy goodness beyond one season.
