30 Days - day 10
Jul. 10th, 2011 11:52 am10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I'm not sure where the comfort zone comes into it, I either like a pairing or don't (dependent on a variety of factors - for example, if I don't find both characters at least a little bit hot then it's hard for me to visualise intimacy between them). There are plenty of pairings I like but don't write, just as there are plenty of fandoms where I read avidly but have zero story ideas.
The main one I'd like to be able to write but don't seem to be able to is Daniel/Cameron (as mentioned before, from SG-1) - I have no issues writing Daniel but Cameron just ends up sounding more like lite!Jack than anything else, which does nobody any favours. I think the main issue with me writing Daniel/Cameron is that I just don't have anything like as much love for the seasons where Cameron appears as I do for earlier ones. Simple as that.
If I didn't like a pairing, at least a little, I can't imagine why I would want to write it in the first place. That would be the major issue for me to determine whether I could write it - I suppose anything is possible but then again if I wrote something I actively didn't like then how good is the result going to be?
