graculus: (Snape)
Well, I just finished book #80 for the year, so go me! ;)

I'm not sure what the final total is going to be, as I'd very much like to re-read/catch up with the Weather Warden books (I definitely have the newest one to go and I think possibly the one before as well) and I never got around to reading the final book of Lynn Flewelling's Tamir Triad because an eon passed between the publication of books 2 and 3, so I should probably read all of those again... I should probably say I finish work on the 21st until January 7th and intend to hibernate as much as is feasible over the intervening period, so it's more than possible I could get through both!

Since I last posted, at the beginning of November, this is what I've read:

The Snake Stone - Jason Goodwin (not as good as the previous book)
The Bone-Pedlar by Sylvian Hamilton (promised much, delivered significantly less)
The Court of the Air by Stephen Hunt (author loses momentum partway through)
When True Night Falls by CS Friedman (excellent, looking forward to the final book)
Death Trick by Richard Stevenson (really enjoyed this, but boy it's of its time)
Bone Song by John Meaney (just what was the author smoking?)
The Skein of Lament by Chris Wooding (how can this guy only be 30? Again, roll on book #3)
Webmage by Kelly McCullough (I wanted to like this, but...)
Sweet Poison by David Roberts (the poor mans' Dorothy L Sayers, with added Communism)

I'm currently reading Blood Price by Tanya Huff, as my local library appears to have picked up the entire series. I have a nasty tendency to end up reading unfinished series but, based on the books I've read so far, if anyone's looking for something in a fantasy series that is actually done then I'd heartily recommend both the CS Friedman trilogy (Black Sun Rising, When True Night Falls, Crown of Shadows) and the Chris Wooding trilogy (Weavers of Saramyr, The Skein of Lament, The Ascendancy Veil).

Oh, and if anyone reading this comes across a copy of On the Other Hand, Death by Richard Stevenson that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (unlike those on Amazon and Abebooks), I'd be more than happy to reimburse them for the cost and postage. Thanks!

And in other news, Innocent lemon, honey & ginger smoothie. Mmm hmm. :)
