Supposedly a list of essential movies voted for by 'film experts' and there's no Kurosawa? No film noir at all? (I'm assuming neither Touch of Evil or Chinatown really count...)
The sole representatives of the entire Far East movie industries were Princess Mononoke and Hero - I'd have expected to see maybe The Killer or one of Zhang Yimou's other movies get in there (with my personal vote being for Farewell My Concubine or Raise the Red Lantern).
The Coen Brothers got Raising Arizona as their sole representative, Powell & Pressburger got Black Narcissus and the token Hitchcock movie was North by Northwest. Hmmm. Lots to disagree with there... ;)
E.T.A. a link to the entire list.
