May. 8th, 2006 10:08 pmNow work has finally got their computerised expenses system up and running, I just claimed over £200-worth of mileage and parking that I was owed. I look forward to that turning up in my bank account very soon.
In other news, over the weekend I had a visit from friends I haven't seen in a while; these are the most resolutely non-fannish couple I know, so much so that they don't even have a TV. But one of them is fascinated by the concept of fanfic, because he teaches English at a university that shall remain nameless, so this time round I waved my copy of 'Textual Poachers' in front of him and watched his eyes light up.
And then he told me he'd learned something new about fanfic and proceeded to inform me he'd been reading about 'MarySue'. I was probably more amused than it deserved, hearing the guy I used to tease for being too smart for his own good (degree from Oxford, PhD from Cambridge kind of smart) talking about self-sacrificing nymphets with violet eyes and cascading ringlets. ;)
