Dissertation delays
Jun. 19th, 2005 02:26 pmI was due to submit my dissertation in September but a couple of months ago it started to become clear it just wasn't going to get done by then.
Even without the added pressures of changing jobs and moving house (neither of which were planned), I'd experienced completely unexpected lack of cooperation from my current employers - yes, I was surprised by this, I have no idea why! - to my interviewing people. They didn't even bother to respond to my request, thus amply demonstrating just why my lengthy list of why they suck just keeps on growing. ;)
Meanwhile, too much to do even without leaving my current employers behind. Increasing workload and much less room to manoeuvre, while I'm of the opinion (apparently shared by my prospective employers, or at least that's the song they're currently singing) that they stand to benefit much more by supporting my endeavours. I might stay with them a little longer that way, since the lack of support for my personal development is definitely an item on the shitlist.
So, frustration and delays. I went to see my tutor, who offered me a month's extension, but it was never going to be enough. So I've asked for a leave of absence, with a view to submitting my dissertation in September 2006 instead. Not my idea of fun, but I don't see that I have a choice.
