The weather is absolutely beautiful today, though it feels a little too warm because it's been so bloody miserable in April - must acclimatise. I could live with this.

I can't believe it's May already, though. In just under 3 weeks I'm off to Montreal, then heading down to MediaWest to meet up with all sorts of people. BTW, [livejournal.com profile] penfold_x, I have way less hair than last time you saw me! :P

In hindsight, buggering off for a fortnight to another country in the middle of when you're trying to sell your house probably isn't too great an idea but I knew if I didn't go then the chances of me getting another holiday before the end of the year and [livejournal.com profile] connotations weren't looking too good.

Meanwhile, over in fandom, people's entitlement issues continue to run rampant as usual. I've never been able to wrap my head around this, so it remains something of a mystery to me. It's that final step between 'I like X and it would be really great if more people would talk/write about it/him/them' to 'I like X and apparently lots of people don't like X, they like Y and therefore as someone who likes X I am being discriminated against because all these people who like Y insist on writing/talking about Y rather than writing/talking about X and so they can't be True Fans otherwise they'd be writing/talking about X not Y and I'm going to whine now...' that I really don't get.

It often seems that the people who whine the loudest that they're being oppressed because people aren't writing what they want to read/talking about what they want to talk about/seeing the characters the way they see them are the ones who don't always contribute a great deal anyway. Whining is easy, giving feedback to the people who *do* see things your way, running archives and mailing lists for your particular pairing if you feel they're getting a raw deal elsewhere, that takes effort. Alas, the demand for spoon-feeding never goes out of style, does it? ;)

I can't believe I didn't spot this before, but watching Galaxy Quest tonight I'm starting to see some startling similarities... Separated at birth... )
