Aug. 12th, 2004 10:13 pmYes, I'm still alive, fancy that! ;)
So, what am I up to? Well, toiling away at work, of course, for one thing. I was given a golden opportunity the other day to pimp the usefulness of the qualification I'm currently working towards with someone higher up the management chain than usual, and her response was "Well, come talk to me when you've got it and we'll see what we can do" so that's better than I'd hoped for. I'm still working on Plan B, which is "What's it worth to you to keep me?" at that point, so perhaps the two will merge a little more seamlessly than I'd thought. We'll find out this time next year, I guess!
Meanwhile, I'm being moderately productive at the moment. I seem to be cursed by the need to write stuff that's different from anything someone else has written, and it *is* a curse. It's like everyone is writing 'stuck in a cave together' stories, I have to write 'stuck in a cave that's infested by mutant ants who have the ability to warp the space-time continuum' - different or just more complicated? Or both?
It makes for interesting researching (and having to resist the power of research procrastination) but is also frustrating because I have this overwhelming desire not to tell anyone what my latest cool idea is in case they steal it for themselves. It was like that with 'Journey's End', 2 years' worth of keeping my trap shut over the cool idea nobody else had ever used in an SG story ever. I have to say, it was worth it in the end, though.
Finally managed to catch up with
nausica2 and
lukitas, so we're on for meeting up this weekend in Bath. Assuming she remembers what time I said - I kept saying "I'll be there about 12" and she was going "Okay, I'll see you at 11". ;)
It's been quite a while since I've been there so I'm looking forward to it. Assuming I can find somewhere to park in what looks like the land of restricted parking areas. :)
And then it's time, next week, for me to get my lardy arse back to the gym. *sigh*
