I like conventions, particularly when I get the chance to spend time with people I wouldn't/don't otherwise get to see. Emails and IM just isn't the same as face to face banter. ;)
However, I've come to appreciate livejournal more and more as time has gone on. I'm definitely not as fond of mailing lists as I used to be, but that may be heavily affected by the unpredictability of Yahell, compared to its previous incarnations as Onelist etc.
2. Are you always upset when your show gets canceled or have you ever been (not so) secretly relieved?
I've yet to experience that since I've been in fandom. I mean, there've been shows that I like that have been cancelled, but it's either happened before I discovered the show or I've not been enthralled with it to that serious extent in the first place. The interesting one is going to be Stargate, but if the people making the show continue to bludgeon the original concept and waste the talent/ideas they could be using, then perhaps I won't be too upset after all...
3. Do you find icons an integral part of lj'ing or would you be just as happy with one icon as with fifty?
I like icons. Except for some animated ones, my White & Exley 2004 icon not withstanding.
4. Do you prefer to read fanfic in zines or online?
Both. I like zines for the portability of them, and the knowledge that the majority of the stories may well be better edited than what I might find online, but there's still nothing like getting an email announcement of a new fic by one of your favourite writers, is there?
5. Do you consider yourself FIAWOL* (fandom is a way of life) or FIJAGDH* (fandom is just a goddamn hobby)?
*Both of these terms originate in early (1940s/50s) science fiction fandom. Please note that FIAWOL does not mean you have no life outside of fandom. It means fandom is so important in your life that you can't see ever walking away from it.
Somewhere between the two, I think. I enjoy fandom. If I stopped enjoying it, I could walk away from it, but I don't see any circumstances at the moment which would cause me to make that decision. I've met some fantastic people who I otherwise wouldn't have encountered, and where else can you get to have conversations about the erotic use of spatulas in public? ;)
