Further on the Lily saga...

So, we're back from the emergency vets...
Basically what happened is that I noticed this morning that Lily wasn't her usual perky self and that she seemed to have lost weight. Since she's approximately 8, which is senior citizen territory for ferrets, anything like that can be a sign things are about to go downhill dramatically.
And then she pooed and it was basically almost all liquid. Also not a good sign. So, since naturally it was past the time when my vets shut for the weekend, I phoned the emergency vet. "We think you should bring her in," they said, when I described her symptoms.
At the vets, Lily obliged by a further demonstration of how poorly she was all over the vet's hand as she was trying to take her temperature. Perfect timing! She was also dehydrated, although she'd perked up a bit by being somewhere new - that nosy nature can't be kept down for too long! Anyway, after some discussion, Lily was given subcutaneous fluids in two places, they washed her back end (which was by now decidedly unpleasant) and sent her home with a bunch of medicine and some electrolytes.
It's not clear what's caused this but the major problem is of course further dehydration and making sure she survives long enough to find out what the problem is... So, now she's in the other hutch (which I was thinking about getting rid of, since I'm an idiot) and we wait.
Thanks to everyone for their good wishes, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
