I try to check and update the links on my Christmas fanfic sites every year as it starts getting closer to the holidays. Invariably there are huge numbers of links that aren't any good. Sigh. I'm happiest when people just let me host the stories on my server for only that reason -- I know where they've been put!
I do find it strange how often stories seem to move around on the internet (or just up and disappear), even when they have been placed on what seem to be large fannish archives. I've only moved mine once (from AOL onto my own domain name) and that was enough of a pain.
