graculus: (It's all Cyc's fault)

I'm quite proud of myself at the moment since I turned out about 5,000 words yesterday, which is well above what I usually manage considering I mostly write at the speed of an oncoming glacier. I blame Ezra Standish for this, though. He seems to have a clear idea of what he's up to and even scuppered the would-be romance I was lining up for him in favour of getting smitten with Chris Larabee.

Currently this story is about 13,000 words and still going strong - from my rough outline of the rest of the plot, I'd say I'm about halfway through. And then I plan to spam the relevant mailing lists with it in small sections in a shameless act of feedback gathering. ;)

Speaking of feedback, it's probably a good thing I write stuff because I want to read it and not because I want my ego stroked. Case in point: I've recently put out two long stories in different fandoms and could count the amount of feedback I've received on them on the fingers of one hand with some left over. It's annoying and dispiriting, to say the least, particularly when one of the stories was something I worked on for two years on and off. I guess fluffy bunny fic really is the way to go if you're feeling fragile and unappreciated? What a shame it's so damn tedious to write...

As the fount of all evil, aren't I supposed to have minions to fawn over me? Where are my minions, damn it?

And finally, it's a tad vexing when you tell someone you're writing an amnesia fic and their response is "sometimes the most clichéd plots are the best". Gah. I'm sure it wasn't meant as it comes across but I was under the impression that the idea of writing clichés is to try and do something new with it.

Don't forget to threaten your readers with carefully crafted statements like 'if i dont get enuf feedback i wont bother riting more. u now wot to do.'

I think my favourite piece of feedback of all time was 'Are all your stories about Daniel?' Oh the responses I was tempted to write to that.

Forgot to say - 5,000 words in a day - wow! That is impressive.

This is good news, you should indeed be proud. I hope it continues.

Isn't fawning mentioned in the contract you have with [livejournal.com profile] blktauna? If not, I'd get it added.

5,000 words? Cool! I managed to write 10 words in the last 2 weeks *sigh*

Amnesia story? Please tell me it's in one of my fandoms! Please, please, please! I love amnesia stories!

Genius! *takes notes* And from your own experience, do you find this works? ;)

As you've already seen, there's been some dispute about what's actually involved... ;)

Unfortunately it's 5,000 words in a fandom you don't read. ;)

And the amnesia story is UNCLE, which I know you'll be happier with! I like amnesia stories too, so when I came up with this particular idea I was more than pleased with it...

JOY! Sounds like a blockbuster OW C/E fic- I am all a-tingle!

Where are my minions, damn it?

Right here- minioning away like mad! (bows respecfully)

It's currently just over 13,000 words and looks like being at least twice that by the time it's done. And little to no 'action' so far - a furtive wank from Ezra in the bushes on the way back to town, but that's your lot to date. ;)

Nothing wrong with a little furtive wank. ;-P

Another 1,500 words since then and now Ezra's insisting on taking himself off to his hotel room and doing naughty things on his own *again*. This story could work out much longer than I'd anticipated if he carries on being this hormonal. ;)

I get the feeling Ezra is determined to test out that theory...
