Yep, poorly ferret is poorly again. After an unsuccessful attempt by my vet to diagnose what was wrong with him last month (both blood tests and a skin scrape were taken, but the results of both were inconclusive), Monty has spent most of the weekend either throwing up or just feeling sorry for himself. So we've been to the vets this morning and he's currently staying there to get fluids/food/antibiotics into him as he hasn't eaten at all since Saturday.

Ordinary drama is much less dramatic in comparison as I've now left Dysfunction Central Ltd and am currently in the throes of induction and waiting to see how much work I'm going to get. I've actually picked up two sessional posts for the same folks so in theory I should get enough from these combined to live on, but at present we're just sorting out what I'm going to be doing and it's all a bit hypothetical while this is done.

I'm just glad to be out of the ongoing craziness, as I wait to see if I get paid for my last few weeks and also decompress/start to pull stuff together for my new job. Sadly, the course I was hoping to do (which should have started last week) has been put off till January at best - assuming there's enough interest at that point - though that does at least mean I haven't spent the fees yet. In the meantime, my new employers are saying all the right things about CPD and support of which I got exactly zero with the last lot (though a lot of passive-aggressive emails and hideous amounts of paperwork) so it's all good.

Of course, it's also this time of year that thoughts turn to NaNo, but that might be a commitment too far considering I haven't actually written anything in 6 months and have outstanding WiP to finish. So, in general terms, I suck.

Day 23

And no, I'm not filtering this particular NaNoWriMo post because...

It's not finished. But it is over 50,000 words! ;)

You know, I'd really hoped to get my current Stargate SG-1 fic done and dusted before the end of the month, but considering that it's just broken 10,000 words and we've barely got going, it's not looking like that's going to happen... *sighs*

And meanwhile, talking of November - last call to be on the NaNoWriMo filter. Entry to this filter entitles you to prime whining and moaning about my own masochism in taking on NaNoWriMo when sensible people ought to be writing for challenges instead. Or something. If you're not on the filter, I will probably make a couple of posts through the month with a progress report, but the majority of the mithering will be on filtered posts to protect the innocent and/or easily aggravated.

I've also now watched the latest Numb3rs (much love! much much love!) and Veronica Mars (also much love for poor Logan! *sniff*), so apart from Battlestar Galactica I'm now up to date. Just in time for the new round of episodes to appear... ;)

Working on my outline for NaNoWriMo, I'm reminded why I don't much like outlines for fic - because even the best idea can sound utterly fatuous when laid out like that. Pffft. Sadly, I'm also realistic enough to know that my chances of getting something novel-length done are greatly increased by having an outline of some kind.

Oh, and I guess it's probably time for people to opt in for the NaNoWriMo filter. If you want to read a month's worth of NaNoWriMo-related moaning and whining, punctuated with the occasional progress report, please comment on this post. If your first reaction to that is 'god, why would I?' then don't comment. ;)

Registration is now open for NaNoWriMo. That is all. ;)

The Wild Wild West fic is done (or at least as done as it's going to be) at just over 9,000 words.

I'm pondering asking people if they want to be included in a NaNoWriMo filter so I don't spam the rest of people with frequent posts of how many words I've written and other writing-related whining... Unlike much Livejournal stuff, this would be an opt-in filter, not an opt-out one! ;) Thoughts on that?

Someone on my friendslist pointed out yesterday that NaNoWriMo is 6 weeks away. Eek!

Now I don't know if anyone else is planning to throw themselves into that madness, but I fancied having a go at it this year - maybe it'll fall apart and I won't manage the 50,000 words, but maybe it won't. ;)
